Cebu City – After continuously being the Green Banner and getting the CROWN Award last year, Toledo City will be awarded the 1st Year Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition (CROWN) Maintenance Award. The decision came from the National Evaluation Team (NET) Meeting last 07 October 2013.
The CROWN Award is given to a municipality, city or province that has been a consistent Green Banner Awardee for three (3) years by the interagency regional nutrition evaluation team for the implementation of its nutrition program. The Local government unit has to maintain its outstanding performance to be conferred the CROWN Maintenance Award which will be evaluated by the National Evaluation Team (NET).
The NET, led by Ms. Jasmine Anne DF. Tandingan, NO II of NSD, NNC with members Ms. Azucena R. Banga from SPAP, Caritas Manila and Mr. Benjamin Jose G. Bautista from SDS, NEDA, visited Toledo City and evaluated its nutrition program last 19 to 20 March 2013. The team did weighing of selected children included in the OPT 2012 masterlist, interview of the BNC, review of records and interviews with the mothers in the barangays Don Andres Soriano, Biga, Bunga, Carmen and Dumlog.
Toledo City will be receiving the 1st Year CROWN Maintenance Award during on 05 November 2013 during the National Nutrition Awarding Ceremony at the Philippine International Convention Center, Pasay City. //DFB

Cebu City – The municipality of Tubigon will be conferred the highest recognition given to Local Government Units that have consistently shown outstanding performance for nutrition improvement, the Nutrition Honor Award (NHA). The decision was handed after the National Evaluation Team met last 07 October 2013.
The Nutrition Honor Award is given to Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition (CROWN) awardees that have consistently shown outstanding performance for nutrition improvement. The award is given to the LGUs with consistent commitment for nutrition improvement and maintaining six years as awardee of the Green Banner leading up to the CROWN Awards.

Cebu City – The Federation of Barangay Nutrition Scholars Association of Region VII, Incorporated (FeBaNuSA 7, Inc.) elected its new set of officers last 07 November 2013 at the New White Gold House, North Reclamation Area, Cebu City.
Given fresh mandate were the following: President, Ms. Maria Luisa G. Delantar from Cebu province. Re-elected for Vice-President was Mr. Lopito B. Patrimonio from Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental and also re-elected as Secretary was Ms. Evangeline M. Villarta of Toledo City. Current Treasurer, Ms. Lucia C. Arellano was retained as the treasurer. Newly elected Auditor was Ms. Maria Aura P. Illaga from Carcar City. Elected as PROs were Ms. Virginia Alisoso from Mandaue City and Ms. Imelda P. Sumadia from Bayawan City. The officers that were elected were among the incumbent President of the different Provincial and City Associations of BNSs region-wide.

Cebu City - To promote the 10 Nutrition Guidelines for Filipinos (NGF), NNC 7 together with the Media Information Network for Nutrition and Development 7 (MIND 7) created a Blogging Contest focusing on the ten (10) Nutrition Guidelines for Filipinos. The blogging contest which would officially start this week would focus on one of the 10 nutrition guidelines for Filipinos in connection with the Health and Nutrition Events being celebrated within the month.
Running for five bi-weekly cycles, the blogging contest will feature a different topic each bi-week. For the first bi-week the topic would be about Food Safety in connection with NGF Number 6 - Consume safe foods and water to prevent diarrhea and other food- and water-borne diseases and the Food Safety Awareness Week being celebrated from October 25 – 29, 2013.

Cebu City – Besting the other candidates, Ms. Maria Christ Joy P. Mañago of Mandaue City won the much-coveted crown of Mutya ng BNS 2013 held on 07 November 2013 at the New White Gold House, North Reclamation Area, Cebu City.
This is the second year that Mandaue City has won the crown with last year’s winner Ms. Jovelyn F. Asingua also coming from Mandaue City.

Bohol Province – In response to the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that hit Central Visayas on 15 October 2013, the Nutrition Cluster was activated to meet the nutritional needs of individuals especially the most vulnerable groups: infants, children, pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers, older persons, people with disabilities, and people living with debilitating conditions.
On 16 October 2013, the NNC 7 initiated coordination/consultation with members of the cluster. The National Nutrition Council Region VII is Chair of the Nutrition Cluster in the region. DOH DPO 2007-2492 mandates the reorganization of the cluster system within the Department of Health and named NNC as Chair of the Nutrition Cluster. Considering that Bohol was badly hit, a team composed of NO III Susan Y. Orpilla of NNC 7 and ND IV Juliet G. Tutor of DOH – CHD 7 was fielded that same day to Bohol for Nutrition in Emergencies (NIE). The team monitored and assessed the implementation of NIE last 16 to 18 October 2013. Specifically, on 17 October, the team attended a briefing/orientation presided by Dir. Carmencita Banatin, Chief of HEMS Central Office and visited the municipalities of Loon. On 18 October, the nutrition team visited Antequera, Maribooc and San Isidro. The team visited evacuation areas, did nutrition assessment, interviewed key persons and coordinated with the NAOs, D/CNPC, MNPCs for the organization and/or activation of the nutrition clusters and mobilization of BNSs for NIE. Central Visayas RNC passed a resolution No 013-03 (series 2013) “Requesting the CV RDRRMC and DILG to enjoin LGUs in the region to create nutrition cluster on nutrition management during emergencies and disasters”.
