Nutri Game Apil Na logoCebu City – A nutrition-based radio program is now aired with a new focus, "One Fruit, One Vegetable, One Root Crop" every episode.

The change was made to highlight the campaign for fruit and vegetable diets. For several years now, the National Nutrition Council VII holds a program every Sunday called, “Nutri-Game, Apil Na.” But in intensifying fruit and vegetable diets, program organizers decided to change program focus to, “One Fruit, One Vegetable, One Root Crop.” Under its changed program focus, format was also designed such that one fruit, one vegetable and one root crop is featured every week.

Over the years, the program has been educating the public on how to make the right food choices that are appropriate to their economic, social, cultural and environmental condition. The program also aims to improve individual dietary practices to prevent further diet-related public health problems and promote safe foods anytime, anywhere.

Radyto Kahimsug LogoBarili, Cebu – Two months after its inaugural broadcast, DYNE 97.5 Radyo Kahimsog needs to be in the pink of health in nutritionally-themed programming. The station is gaining a listenership base, though as farmers in Barili are happy they have a radio station dedicated to addressing their concerns especially in agriculture, nutrition and health.

While the programming is meant to combat indulgence-driven themes and aggressively imbibe proper nutrition, good lifestyle and healthy eating, a visit and monitoring made on DYNE 97.5 Radyo Kahimsog found the two month old radio station fall short of nutrition-based programming.

The National Nutrition Council learned of the station’s needed improvement in programming during a visit last May 28. Ms. Jovita Raval, Chief, NIED of NNC and Mr. Francisco Flores of MQ Mediazone Production together with NPC Parolita Mission and AA III Eduardo Baguio visited the radio station housed inside Barili Campus of Cebu Technological University. Specifically, the visiting team looked into the operations of DYNE 97.5 Radyo Kahimsog in the technical and broadcast aspect as well as the quality of its sound on air.

On its technical operations, the team assessed the equipment, transmitter, audio mixer, antenna and cable, tower and radio station cellphone. Other instruments checked were CD players, computers, monitor, webcam and AVR, antenna tower, air conditioning unit auxiliary power (generator set) among others. The broadcasting aspect included looking into the airing of nutrition plugs and programs, daily programming schedule, management and sustainability of shows. It was found that the airing of nutrition and healthy lifestyle themed shows were not as aggressive as it was required.

The monitors suggested the mounting of a map reflecting reach of areas that the station covered. They also suggested that the license of technician and an organizational chart of the Community Radio Council be mounted.

In sound on-air quality, the station had good reception and modulation. Listeners described the disc jock to have a well modulated voice and good delivery. While Dr. Mission discussed how programming can be improved, she also recommended constant and consistent airing of nutrition plugs.

DYNE 97.5 Radyo Kahimsog is one of the 25 Community Radio Network Program established by NNC nationwide. Its objective is to empower the community through the dissemination of correct and up-to-date nutrition and health information as well as educational and developmental information from the community, government agencies, and non-government organizations.

Recommendations and comments made during the visit were presented by Ms. Raval to CTU Barili Campus officials led by Campus Director and Station Manager, Dr. Catalino Higida and the officers and members of the Community Radio Council. Dr Higida, in behalf of CTU and the Community Radio Council vowed to implement all the recommendations given by the monitors.//Norre Jean V. Delos Santos, CTU – DevCom Intern
