Meeting with Regional SUN Civil Society NetworkA total of 21 civil society organizations (CSOs) pledged their commitment to become members of the SUN Civil Society Network (CSN) in the National Capital Region during the advocacy and organizational meeting held on April 5, 2022, via Zoom.

The Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement is a renewed effort to eliminate all forms of malnutrition, based on the principle that everyone has a right to food and good nutrition. It is a global movement that unites governments, civil society, donors, businesses, the United Nations, academe, researchers, and citizens in a collective effort to improve nutrition. The Movement encourages multisectoral and multi-stakeholders to work together to bring about an end to malnutrition.

Now we will learn more about the NNC GB through the Board Hunt Game. This is an online game in which participants must find a set of words that represents each member of the GB. It will be open to the public, and five winners will receive up to a 100-peso load per week.

Webinar Series on Nutrition Year 2The National Nutrition Council – NCR’s Webinar Series on Nutrition: Year 2 will focus its  episodes for 2022 on the National Nutrition Council (NNC) and the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN).

The webinar series dubbed as “NutriSerye: Usapang nutrisyon, atbp.” was launched in 2021 as a strategy to reach out to more people and influence them to practice good nutrition. Topics discussed were various nutrition issues such as healthy diet and proper exercise especially during the pandemic. Nutrition programs of local government units (LGU) and regional outstanding nutrition workers were also highlighted.

Earlier this year, an online recall survey was conducted from January 14-21 to measure Filipinos’ awareness and recall on the existing campaigns of NNC: First 1000 Days of Life, 10 Kumainments, 2021 Nutrition Month and the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN).

It is a celebration where thousands of patients, survivors, caregivers, advocates, and volunteers join to share their stories and spread awareness on the prevention of colorectal cancer and the importance of early detection. This offers healthcare providers who care for patients with diseases of the colon and rectum a valuable opportunity to educate their community about these diseases and promote awareness of the importance of colorectal cancer screening, prevention, and treatment.

Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer among Filipinos, both men and women. People over the age of 45, as well as those with a family history of colorectal cancer, are at risk of developing this disease.

Colorectal cancer refers to cancer in the colon or rectum or both. Symptoms include a change in bowel habits, blood in the stool, discomfort in the abdomen, weakness, fatigue, and unexplained weight loss.

NCR continues partnership with DAR R3 for Phase 4 of Tutok Kainan DSPThe National Nutrition Council at the National Capital Region (NNC-NCR) continued its partnership with the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) Region III for the implementation of Phase 4 of the Tutok Kainan Dietary Supplementation Program (TK-DSP) in the region.

TK-DSP is an initiative of NNC to mitigate hunger and malnutrition and prevent stunting in the first 1000 days of life (F1K). It also promotes the economic empowerment of Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Organizations (ARBOs) through sustainable partnership as a direct buyer of ARBO’s farm products and services.

29 March 2022 –Thirty-six (36) participants composed of 4 Nutrition Action Officers, 17 Local Nutrition Program Coordinators, and 15 members of the Regional Nutrition Committee (RNC) and Regional Nutrition Management Group (RNMG) gathered in an online workshop to review the RNC Resolution No. 3 Series of 2018 “Enjoining LGUs to Implement Local Initiatives for the Prevention and Management of Overweight and Obesity.”

The policy review facilitated by NNC-NCR Team led by NPC Mila Federizo was conducted to assess the attainment of RNC resolution’s objectives and document learnings gained as well as provide recommendations for its effective implementation.
