health policies orientation28 May 2013- - the National Nutrition Council - Calabarzon convened the Chiefs of Hospitals, Nutritionists-Dietitians (NDs) and some OPD personnel of the various district hospitals in Quezon province to an orientation meeting held at the Graceland Estates, Tayabas City. RNPC Carina Z. Santiago and PNAO Agripino R. Tullas initiated the meeting believing in the importance of empowering Chiefs of Hospitals, hospital personnel and NDs after attending the Health Leadership and Management for the Poor Training given by Zuellig Family Foundation.

RNPC Santiago gave a brief backgrounder on the current nutrition situation of Calabarzon, while NO III Jellie Anne Palencia and NO II Lourdes B. Bulante acquainted them on the following nutrition policies, namely: a) DILG Memorandum Circular No. 2010-89, Adoption of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2011-2016; b) DOH AO No. 2010-0010, “Revised policy on Micronutrient Supplementation to Support Achievement of 2015 MDG targets to reduce Under-Five and Maternal deaths and Address Micronutrient Needs of other Population Groups”;

radyo kaisahan arya29 May 2013 - NPC Santiago and NO III Palencia together with District Nutrition Program Coordinator of Quezon Province conducted an on-the-spot visit of the NNC-established Nutriskwela Radio station, Radyo Kaisahan-Arya in Sariaya, Quezon. The objective of the visit was to observe radio operations and address issues and concerns.

Present during the visit were Station Manager, Mr. Simeon Abanador, Jr. and announcer on-board Ms. Maricar Castillo. Positive findings have been observed such as improvements in the physical layout of the station, as well as the presence of equipments purchased by the LGU to augment and/or replace those provided by the NNC.

On the other hand, among the recommendations of the team was the revitalization of the Community Radio Council, which was initially scheduled on June 17, 2013 but was rescheduled to July 2013.

rnet deliberation30 October 2013 – the Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team (RNET) and National Nutrition Council IV-A headed by RNPC Carina Z. Santiago conducted the RNET deliberation and declared the 2013 nutrition champions in the region for the year 2013.

The following are the awards to be given for the local government units with exemplary performance in implementing their local nutrition programs: Green Banner Awards for the Most Outstanding Municipality in the Region; Most Outstanding City in the Region and; Most Outstanding Province in the Region. The local nutrition volunteers also known as the Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs) finalists, 2nd placer, 1st placer and the Most Outstanding in the Region will also be awarded respective certificates, plaque and cash.

pgnIn order to provide support to the LGUs on the conduct of the barangay level trainings on the Promotion of Good Nutrition, Nutrition Officer II Mary Mei M. Javier has been doing the rounds of monitoring in the various municipalities of CaLaBaR (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas and Rizal). The monitoring also aimed to determine whether the barangay trainings are being conducted according to the guidelines, and also to provide technical assistance, when needed.

As of May 30, 2013, a total of 77 batches from the four (4) provinces had already been conducted, 33 batches of which were monitored by Ms. MM Javier, namely: In Cavite: Alfonso, Gen. Aguinaldo-Magallanes, Indang, Silang, Naic, Mendez, Tagaytay, Tanza, Amadeo, Cavite City and Maragondon-Ternate; In Laguna: Los Baños-Bay, Pila-Pagsanjan, and Luisiana; In Batangas: Malvar, Padre Garcia, Lobo, San Nicolas, Laurel, San Juan, Tuy, San Luis, Mabini, Lemery, Balayan, Mataas na Kahoy, Calaca and Talisay; In Rizal: Pililia-Jalajala, Binangonan-Cainta and Tanay-Morong-Teresa.

parangalThe 2013 Joint Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony of Regions IV-A and IV-B held at the Heritage Hotel in Pasay City on 6 December 2013, honored men, women and local government units in Region IV, for their dedication, passion and contribution in the field of nutrition. The 2013 RNAC was aptly called “Ang Parangal”. The annual awarding ceremony is one of the most awaited moments among key players who have given exemplary performance in the implementation of various nutrition programs at the local level. rdc scsd11 June 2013 - As a kick off for the nutrition month celebration in July, the Regional Development Council (RDC) of Calabarzon through its Sectoral Committee on Social Development (SCSD) and the Regional Sub-Committee on Nutrition (RSCN) has organized a dissemination forum on the Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos (NGF) at the Hotel Dominique, Tagaytay City.

The forum which was led by the National Nutrition Council (NNC) IV-A likewise tackled the Regional Nutrition Situation of Calabarzon and the Pilipinas Go 4 Health of the Department of Health. The participants in the NGF forum were HR officers or administrative officers of member agencies of the RDC and the academe.
