rscn1stmeetingCALABARZON Regional Sub-Committee on Nutrition (RSCN) conducted its 1st meeting for this year on 23 June 2011 at the Executive Hall, Fernandina 88 Suites Hotel, Cubao, Quezon City. The RSCN member agencies discussed the results of the 2010 Search for the Regional Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar (ROBNS), updates on the Infant and Young Child Feeding Training and Local Media Placements, Campaign on Measles Rubella Supplemental Immunization and updates on Supplementary Feeding Program.

The RSCN member agencies present during the meeting were: 1. Center for Health Development (Chair), 2. National Nutrition Council (Co-Chair), members: 3. Department of Agriculture, 4. Bureau of Food and Aquatic Resources, 5. Non-Government Organization, 6. National Food Authority, 7. Department of Science and Technology, 8. Department of Agrarian Reform, 9. Department of Education, 9. Department of Trade and Industry, 10. Department of Labor and Employment, 11. Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, 12. Department of Social Welfare and Development, and 13. Department of Interior and Local Government.

ihnf logoThe Institute of Human Nutrition and Food, College of Human Ecology (IHNF-CHE) of the University of the Philippines Los Baños, Laguna conducted the pre-testing of the Results-Based Monitoring and Evaluation (RBME) Tool to assess the training programs on the Nutrition Program Management (NPM) and Basic Course for Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs). This was held at the College of Human Ecology Research and Extension Center (CHE-REC) Training Room last 15 September 2011.

The RBME Tool pre-testing was attended by representatives from NNC-Central Office, NNC-National Capital Region, and NNC-Region IV. Local government units (LGUs) of Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Marinduque, Muntinlupa and Taguig were also invited to attend the activity. Each participant filled up the RBME Tool template corresponding to the provided encoding guide. The criteria stated in the template were commented by the participants to further enhance the monitoring tool.

nm2011shirtThe National Nutrition Council RO IV designed a t-shirt that promotes the 2011 Nutrition Month Theme: "Isulong ang Breastfeeding: Tama, Sapat at EKsklusibo". The promotional shirts were distributed to member-agencies of the Regional Sub-Committee on Nutrition, local government units and other stakeholders for the dissemination of the Nutrition Month theme.

fbns logoThe Federation of Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) in CALABARZON held its 4th quarter meeting last 20 December 2011 at the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Conference Hall, Calamba City, Laguna.

The meeting was convened in order to discuss the BNS Federation SEC registration; to plan activities for 2012; to feedback proceedings during the 1st National BNS Federation Incorporated Meeting in Davao City which was attended by Vice-President Milagros V. Valera; and to confer other matters regarding the Regional Barangay Nutrition Scholars Federation.

The said meeting was the 6th for this year including the federation’s regular quarterly meetings. It was attended by all the BNS Federation Officers and Board Members indicated below:
