05 2021 15 MELLPI Simulation to Calapan City
As an inter-agency activity, the Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team (RNET) conducted a virtual MELLPI Pro simulation activity to the City of Calapan on 20 May 2021 via Zoom Application. Calapan City is one of the national contenders in MIMAROPA Region vying for the 1st Year Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition (CROWN) Maintenance Award.

05 2021 14 FNRI Recipes

To help of Filipinos afflicted by unemployment, poverty, and hunger caused by COVID-19 pandemic, provision of free food items and other essential goods through community pantries were initiated. (See: http://bit.ly/communitypantryrecos).

Among the typical food items offered in various community pantries are canned goods and processed foods. These items are convenient, readily available, easily carried and have prolonged shelf life. Since these food items are pre-cooked, they are ready-to-eat, can be prepared with minimal cooking or mixed with some recipes. However, these are usually high in salt, sugar, fat, or other types of preservatives.

To make these food items more nutritious, addition of other food items can be done to transform it to a hearty meal that can be enjoyed by the family. Level up and upgrade the nutritional content of your ordinary relief food items through these five (5) healthful yet quick recipes adapted from the FNRI Menu Guide Calendar: Nutritious Meals during Extended Emergency Period:

05 2021 11 AIDS Candlelight Memorial Day

NNC MIMAROPA joins the world in the observance of the International AIDS Candlelight Memorial Day this 16 May 2021 with the theme: “We Remember. We Take Action. We Live Beyond HIV.”

This annual event which began in 1983 is held every third Sunday of May to commemorate the lives lost due to AIDS-related complications, to honor those who dedicated their lives helping people living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and continue to mobilize our communities in harmony. Thousands of events across the globe are highlighted with uplifting ceremonies organized by community-based organizations such as HIV-positive people, women’s and youth groups, businesses, academic institutions, faith-based organizations, and the media.

05 2021 13 Boac BNS training

The Municipal Nutrition Office of Boac, Marinduque conducted a Computer Literacy Training for the Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) in partnership with Department of Information and Communications Technology (DITC) and Information and Communications Technology Section (ITCS) at the municipal level. It was led by Municipal Nutrition Action Officer (MNAO) Ms. Giselle Pearl Olympia and supported by their Municipal Mayor Armi DC. Carrion.

The Computer Literacy Training Program includes sessions on basic computer use for the BNSs, preparation of documentation reports, and encoding of data in the new Operation Timbang (OPT) Plus tool, among others. The training provided additional learning for more efficient completion of work reports of BNSs. It also helped the BNSs to be adapt with the technology nowadays. A total of four training batches were held for BNSs in all 61 barangays in the municipality for the whole month of April.

Nitong 2020 at 2021 ay nakita natin ang matinding epekto ng COVID-19 pandemic, partikular sa sektor ng kalusugan.

Sa katunayan, noong ika-27 ng Abril ay pumalo na sa higit isang milyon ang kaso ng COVID-19 sa ating bansa. Ating nasaksihan ang kadakilaan ng ating mga magiging na frontline workers, lalo na ang ating mga NURSES na araw-araw ay sumasabak upang mapangangalagaan ang mga tinamaan ng sakit.

Up to the present, the COVID-19 pandemic made extensive impact especially on the access to health and nutrition services.

To address the health and nutritional concerns of MIMAROPAns, the local government units in the region consistently implemented activities to continue the delivery of nutrition services. Majority of local nutrition committees conducted meetings to discuss the approved municipal nutrition action plan (MNAP) for CY 2021, review accomplishment reports on implemented nutrition programs of LGUs and its partner agencies, brainstorm for the upcoming 47th nutrition month celebration, and strategize on the implementation of  medical and dental check-ups and buntis congress and proposed plan on the conduct of supplemental feeding in the LGU. These activities are all based on the results of 2021 first semester OPT Plus.
