The National Nutrition Council – MIMAROPA joins the Department of Health and the Philippine Society of Hypertension in celebrating the national hypertension awareness month this May to raise consciousness and encourage Filipinos to prevent and control this disease. This awareness month is observed by the virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 1761 of 2009.
Hypertension or elevated blood pressure is a serious medical condition considered as the number one contributing risk factor for global deaths, causing strokes, heart attacks, and other cardiovascular complications.
According to World Health Organization, an estimated of 1.13 billion people worldwide have hypertension. While in the Philippines, based on the 2019 results of the Expanded National Nutrition Survey (ENNS) of the Department of Science and Technology – Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI), 17.5% of Filipino adults (20 years and above) have an elevated blood pressure.

Did you know that according to Department of Health (DOH), cervical cancer is the second leading cancer site among women in the Philippines?
The National Nutrition Council MIMAROPA Region joins the nation as we commemorate the month of May as Cervical Cancer Awareness Month by the virtue of Proclamation No. 368, s. 2003, signed on 30 April 2003.

This has caused many to experience hunger, malnutrition, and greater susceptibility to infections and diseases.

NNC MIMAROPA participated the virtual caravan for the Philippine Development Plan (PDP) with the theme: “Tayo na, Bumangon para sa Ambisyon!” held via Zoom Application on 23 April 2021 spearheaded by National Economic and Development Authority MIMAROPA. The virtual event was a nationwide caravan of NEDA for PDP 2017-2022 and MIMAROPA is the last region hold the event for its Luzon leg. The caravan was simultaneously aired via Facebook Live in the MIMAROPA Regional Development Council Page to reach more sector in the society.

The National Nutrition Council MIMAROPA Region participates in the observance of 2021 Head and Neck Consciousness Week pursuant to Proclamation No. 676, s. 2008. Annually, we commemorate the fourth week of April to increase public awareness on the cancer of the head and neck region which includes the oral cavity, nasopharynx, larynx, and thyroid, and to promote primary prevention, screening, or early detection and optimal treatment and care.
