11 February 2021- The Regional Nutrition Committee-Technical Working Group conducted its first meeting for 2021 via online. Presided by the RNCTWG Chair, Ms. Aslamia Kumpo-Anggie of DILG XII, the virtual meeting was attended by 11 members from the following agencies: DOH, DA, DSWD, NEDA, DOLE, DAR, NCIP, DEPED, PopCom and Save the Children.

Tutok Kainan is a nutrition strategy under National Dietary Supplementation Program of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2017-2022 that aims to prevent nutrition deterioration of nutritionally vulnerable groups like pregnant women and pre-school children aged 6-23 mos who are wasted and stunted, by providing them nutritionally adequate supplementary food. Further, it is also the National Nutrition Council’s (NNC) COVID response that conforms the implementation of RA 11148.

In pursuit to scale up nutrition information and promotion, the National Nutrition Council Region XII conducted a virtual meeting last February 10, 2021 via zoom together with its regional media group. The meeting aims to increase public awareness of the current nutrition situation and seek support and commitment of the regional media group in promoting nutrition campaign in the region.

Cancer also called as malignant tumors or neoplasms, a common term for a large group of diseases that can cause distress to any organ or tissue of the body when abnormal cells grow uncontrollably. According to World Health Organization (WHO), cancer is the second leading cause of death in the Philippines responsible for around 141,021 cases and 86,337 deaths in 2018. Breast and lung cancer are the most common cases that are high in incidence and mortality, respectively.

Local Government of Tacurong City in partnership with Zuellig Family Foundation and Nutrition International is currently conducting NEXUS Technical Training for their Health and Nutrition Workers. NNC XII thru Nutrition Officer III, Ms. Annalita Mae V. Flores actively supports the LGU's endeavor and served as one of the resource persons for the said training.
NEXUS Technical Training aims to deepen knowledge of health and nutrition workers on current state of nutrition in their respective community and understand the various effects of malnutrition on society, identify values, principles, and beliefs as a healthcare worker, and identify effective or defective treatment of those in need of service. One of the objectives as well of the training is to increase participant's knowledge on community health and nutrition-related programs and services, especially for pregnant women and children aged 0-23 months (First 1000 Days Population) and inter-sectoral referrals for the First 1000 Days Population.
