Presidential Decree 1569 states that a Barangay Nutrition Scholar (BNS) shall be a barangay-based volunteer worker responsible for delivering nutrition services and other related activities such as community health, backyard food production, environmental sanitation, culture, mental feeding, and family planning to the barangay.

The BNS Program is one of the human resource development strategies of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) and is adopted by the Regional Nutrition Committee (RNC).

As one of the Barangay volunteers and front liners, BNS must be protected, recognized, and empowered, hence the RNC XII passed Resolution no. 5 series of 2022 entitled “Enjoining Local Government Units (LGUs) of Region XII to strengthen the Barangay Nutrition Scholar program by creating local policies for BNSs security of tenure and providing for qualifications, recruitment, capacity building, and granting of benefits and incentives”.

General Santos City, known as the "Tuna Capital of the Philippines," has joined the National Nutrition Council's 48th Nutrition Month Celebration, with a launching event in the city. This year's Nutrition Month theme, "NEW NORMAL NA NUTRITION, SAMA-SAMANG GAWAN NG SOLUSYON!" represents the country's heart and hope in combating malnutrition while embracing the pandemic's aftermath.

The event was organized by the General Santos City Nutrition Council (CNC) and City Health Office, led by Doc. Jett Oco, GenSan's City Health Officer and City Nutrition Action Officer, and Batang Star Philippines, Inc. (BATANG STAR), led by their Founder and CEO Mr. Dward Lacanilao-Zurriaga.

The Bugal T'nalak Trade Fair debuted on July 11, 2022, at the KCC Events Center. Rictoniel Reginio, provincial director of the Department of Trade and Industry, South Cotabato Provincial Office, led the launch, which aims to highlight local products from micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in South Cotabato. There are a total of eighteen exhibitors displaying their products.

The National Nutrition Council XII staff-led activities for the promotion of good nutrition and a healthy lifestyle through lecture-discussion, and Nutrition assessment.

SOCCSKSARGEN---National Nutrition Council XII held its first Nutrition Conference for the Empowerment of Youth Leaders in collaboration with the Regional Sangguniang Kabataan Federation. The activity was conducted on July 25 at Villa Amor Hotel, Koronadal City attended by the Sangguniang Kabataan Officers of 45 Municipalities and 4 Cities.

This activity aims to mobilize the youth leaders to specifically generate support through advocacy and information dissemination on the First 1000 Days of Life, good nutrition, achieving a healthy lifestyle, and lobbying for legislation on the adoption of nutrition-supportive policies. It is also directed at increasing support through allocating resources for Nutrition programs, projects, and activities and working closely with the Local Nutrition Committee’s Actions in Scaling Up Nutrition.

As part of the 48th Nutrition Month Celebration, the Local Government Unit of Midsayap through the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office - Nutrition Section conducted the Talakayan Series: Usapang Buntis to the top 5 Barangays with the highest number of pregnant women namely: Lower Katingawan, Nalin, Poblacion 3, Anonang and Arizona. A total of 139 pregnant women took part in the activity.

The activity also offered free health services to all pregnant women like a dental check-up and dental care tips, laboratory examination (hemoglobin determination, blood typing, and urinalysis), and free eye checkups for the 1st trimester & 2nd trimester.

SOCCSKSARGEN--- The National Nutrition Council (NNC) XII, in partnership with the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) XII, held a press conference for the 2022 Nutrition Month Celebration following the Nutrition Month Launch on the first of July.

The press conference was held at Greenstate Suites, Koronadal City attended by various media personalities, partners, and NNC XII’s information arm, NUTRI-DOSE (Nutrition in Development Organization of Social Educators (Nutri-Dose), SOCCSKSARGEN).
