LGU Esperanza conducted activities intended to raise awareness about diabetes, promote awareness of good nutrition, and call for strengthened nutrition interventions and solidarity on nutrition improvement as the nation shifts towards living with the COVID-19 virus.

The Municipal Health Office of Esperanza in collaboration with the National Nutrition Council XII and DOH-CHD SOCCSKSARGEN Region conducted Diabetes Awareness Week with the theme "Daya-betes? Kaya i-beat this!" and the 48th Nutrition Month Culmination Activity with the theme "New Normal na Nutrition, Sama- samang gawan ng solution!"

Present during the said activity were representatives from the Health Promotion Bureau of DOH Central Office; DOH XII Regional Director, Aristides Conception Tan, MD, MPH, CESO III; PHO and PNAO of Sultan Kudarat Province, Gina Galinato, MD, MHcA; MHO of LGU Esperanza, Helson LaspiƱas, MD, MAHA; OHCC Medical Coordinator, Zenaida Donguines, RN, DNE, MAN, DHCM; Brgy. Councilors, Sangguniang Kabataan Federation, Barangay Health Workers and Barangay Nutrition Scholars.

NNC SOX NUTRITION SYMPOSIUM

Health professionals play a central and critical role in improving access and quality health care for the population. They provide essential services that promote health, prevent diseases, and deliver health care services to individuals, families, and communities based on the primary health care approach (WHO, 2022).

Based on 2022 NNC Survey Recall there is a need to strengthen nutrition advocacies in the Region. The health practitioners serve as resources for most of the individuals in the community on proper nutrition, healthy diet, and health care.

The Regional Office XII of the National Nutrition Council conducted a Virtual Nutrition Symposium for the Public/Private Health Practitioners to promote and widen its advocacies on nutrition through a collaboration among private and public practitioners in the region.

Koronadal City---Despite the pandemic, South Cotabato recorded a dropping number of stunted and wasted children aged 0-59 months old in the last three years, Provincial Nutrition Action Officer Rudy Jimenea revealed in a press conference held recently.

"South Cotabato has the least number of malnourished children among the provinces of SOCCSKSARGEN last year based on the data of the National Nutrition Council in the region," Jimenea presented.

Nutrition Symposium

Department of the Interior and Local Government Unit Regional Office (DILG) on July 4, 2022 officially participated in the month-long celebration.

Regional Director Josephine Cabrido-Leysa, CESO III highlighted in her opening message the importance of having good nutrition and a healthy lifestyle. She also advocated the importance of securing optimum nutrition in the first 1000 days, especially among the pregnant and lactating employees and employees with children under 2 years old to observe and practice the essential services and interventions for the First 1000 days.

Koronadal City---In its bid to promote good nutrition in South Cotabato, the Provincial Government takeoffs Nutri-Serye, a series of talks on a Facebook platform about the nutrition-related program to advance good nutrition practices integrated into different departments of the Provincial Capitol.

Rudy Jimenea, Provincial Information Officer, who is also the Provincial Nutrition Action Officer (PNAO), said Nutri-Serye collaborates with other departments of the Capitol through a talk show which focuses on the different initiatives of South Cotabato to combat malnutrition.

ZFF SARANGANI JULY

The Province of Sarangani in partnership with the Zuellig Family Foundation (ZFF) conducted the first batch of workshop on formulating the Municipal Nutrition Action Plans, held on July 19-21 at the East Asia Royale Hotel, General Santos City. Participating municipalities for this batch were composed of Malapatan, Maasim, and Maitum.

The resource speakers from the National Nutrition Council XII were Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Retsebeth Laquihon and NO III Annalita Mae Flores, who also served as facilitators for the 3-day workshop alongside other NNC XII and ZFF staff.
