Cebu City – The role of women in nutrition was highlighted during the National Women’s Month of the Department of Agrarian Reform Region VII. Nutrition Officer I, Mr. Gab Flores of the Nutrition, Information and Education Team of NNC 7 shared the topic focusing on the importance of women in all life stages in the battle for good nutrition. The content of the presentation centered on the nutritional needs on life cycle of a woman during pre-pregnancy, birth, toddlerhood, adolescence, adulthood until older age, and how it can be addressed in every stage. The responsibilities of women in nurturing the family thru proper nutrition was also elaborated during the talk.

Cebu City – Members of the Regional Nutrition Committee-Technical Working Group (RNC-TWG) gathered at One Central Hotel in Cebu City on 23-24 March 2022 to enhance their knowledge and skills in nutrition shepherding. It was a great opportunity for the TWG members to get to know the flexibility and vast potential of the project to motivate low performing LGUs to ascent and become good or best performing LGU.

Cebu City - The Regional Nutrition Committee thru the National Nutrition Council Region VII conducted nutrition counselling among employees of the Department of Agrarian Reform Region VII (DAR 7) on 15 March 2022. The activity was part of the agency’s celebration of the Women’s Month. Prior to the counselling session, Nutrition Officer I Gabriel M. Flores spoke on women’s role in nutrition.
The NNC 7 team composed of Nutrition Officers I Gabriel M. Flores and Christine M. Lopez, and Nutritionist-Dietitian II James Aaron S. Perez screened the weight of personnel using body mass index (BMI) and counseled those obese and overweight on the suggested lifestyle modification and proposed diet plan to follow. Employees with normal weights were encouraged to maintain their healthy lifestyle practices.
DAR 7’s Regional Director Romeo L. Reyes graced the activity and was also counseled by ND II Perez. About forty to fifty (40-50) employees were served during the activity.
Common concern of members of the workforce was their lack of physical activity of which the team proposed to conduct a regular Zumba break/dance break during their day. The suggested activity could help increase blood circulation, improve mood, and release stress among the employees. The team also advised to offer healthy food option in the canteen of the agency.
BMI and nutrition counseling is an annual activity of the RNC offered as part of the nutrition service to its members.

Cebu City –The National Nutrition Council Region VII prepared the members of the inter-agency Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team (RNET) for the conduct of the 2022 Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Cebu Plan Level Implementation (MELLPI) Pro as it gears up for the annual M&E for the year. The orientation session was held on 24 March 2022 at the One central Hotel, Cebu City.

Cebu City - The Media Information Network for Nutrition and Development 7 (MIND 7), the official media network for nutrition in Central Visayas defined their priorities for 2022. This was done during the first blended organizational meeting of the association for the year held on 18 March 2022.
The MIND 7 officers agreed to focus on debunking the myth that Filipinos are genetically short or stunted and First 1000 Days of a child’s life is crucial for a healthier, taller, and brilliant children as key messages that the 2022 Social Behavior Change and Communication plan will carry. Target audience and communication strategies were also firmed up. The meeting was presided by its president, Ms. Mitchelle L. Palabusanon from The Freeman. The 2022 Nutrition Month, 2021 OPT plus results, salt monitoring results, and the nutrition response for typhoon Odette were also shared to the attending participants.
NPC Dr. Parolita A. Mission in her message during the meeting reiterated her challenge to the media practitioners to help NNC’s campaign to arrest the crawling increase of nutrition indices and improve the nutrition landscape in Central Visayas. She emphasized on the power of the media to educate the populace towards healthy food choices and healthy eating. Moreso, to influence policy makers to invest in nutrition especially with the full implementation of the Mandanas-Garcia Supreme Court ruling that increases the financial muscles of LGUs.
MIND 7 is composed of group of media practitioners from TV, radio, print, the internet and information officers of national government agencies and local government units in Central Visayas organized by NNC 7 to help sustain efforts for nutrition advocacy and promotion in the region. // ND II James Aaron S. Cebu City – On the 11th of March 2022, a 3-member team of NNC 7 mentored health and nutrition personnel of Mandaue City. The technical team was composed of NO III Nasudi Soluta, ND II Franz Cassandra Ontina, and NO I Gab Flores. Present during the activity were CNPC Josephine J. Aninon, and NO III Minerva S. Santilla.
