The officers and board members of the Federation of Barangay Nutrition Scholars of the National Capital Region together with NNC-NCR Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Mila Federizo and Nutrition Officer I Bea Menorca went to the Province of Marinduque for their annual Lakbay-Aral and Team Building on April 25-29, 2016.
The Province of Marinduque, also known as the “Heart of the Philippines”, is a 2nd year CROWN (Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition) Maintenance Awardee vying for the 2015 Nutrition Honor Award. It also boasts of having a BNS who was a runner-up in the 2014 Search for Regional Outstanding BNS.

The National Nutrition Council at the National Capital Region (NNC-NCR) promotes the 10 Kumainments in stations along EDSA of the Mass Rapid Transit – Line 3 or most commonly known as MRT.
The 10 Kumainments are the popularized version of the Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos (NGF). They are simple and easy to remember guidelines that can be easily followed by ordinary citizens to improve their nutritional status. The NNC-NCR, as part of its Local Media Campaign, printed tarpaulin streamers containing one (1) Kumainment per streamer so people can easily read and remember the Kumainment.

Fifteen (15) outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs) from 14 cities and 1 municipality in Metro Manila are vying for the Regional Outstanding BNS (ROBNS) for 2015.
Barangay Nutrition Scholars are community-based nutrition workers who deliver basic nutrition and related services in the communities. Presidential Decree 1569 mandates that there should be at least one (1) BNS in every barangay. The BNSs are considered modern-day heroes who help mothers and children get proper nutrition. They also serve as catalysts of change in the communities by empowering families through the various nutrition programs and services they help implement together with the barangay nutrition committee.

San Juan City launched its 3G Club or the “Galing at Gandang Ginang ng San Juan/Go, Grow, Glow Club” on May 1, 2016 at the Atrium of San Juan City Hall.
The project was conceptualized by the city nutrition secretariat headed by City Nutrition Action Officer Dr. Rosalie Sto. Domingo in support of the First 1000 Days Campaign. The 3G Club aims to help pregnant and lactating mothers and their babies achieve good health and nutritional status during the first 1000 days of the child which covers the period of pregnancy up to the first two years of life of the child.

The National Nutrition Council recognizes yearly the Outstanding BNSs (OBNSs) in the country who have shown exemplary performance and contributed much to the improvement of the nutrition situation in the community he or she serves.
To determine the NCR contender for the National Outstanding BNS (NOBNS) for 2015, the inter-agency Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team (RNET) conducted its evaluation of city/municipal OBNSs in Metro Manila from February 10 to April 8, 2016. The OBNSs’ performance and accomplishments in 2015 were assessed based on the guidelines and prescribed evaluation tool.
The fifteen (15) OBNS vying for the 2015 ROBNS Award are: Mr. Judy N. Cruz (Brgy. Hulong Duhat, Malabon City), Ms. Loida G. Domingo (Brgy. San Rafael Village, Navotas City), Ms. Analiza A. Camus (Brgy. Pasolo, Valenzuela City), Ms. Flordeliza R. Dahipon (Brgy. Fortune, Marikina City), Ms. Rhea S. Benoy (Brgy. Kapitolyo, Pasig City), Ms. Gina G. Reyes (Brgy. New Lower Bicutan, Taguig City), Ms. Teresita M. Patiño (Brgy. Pasadena, San Juan City), Ms. Elsa C. Herasta (Brgy. Martirez, Municipality of Pateros), Ms. Alicia C. Claudio (Brgy. Rizal, Makati City), Ms. Evelyn S. Pangilinan (Brgy. 20, City of Manila), Ms. Saloma I. Zamora (Brgy. Mabini J. Rizal, Mandaluyong City), Ms. Milagros G. Olpoc (Brgy. 91, Pasay City), Ms. Amalia T. Ranao (Brgy. Almanza Uno, Las Piñas City), Ms. Elvira J. Dela Cruz (Brgy. Merville, Parañaque City) and Ms. Marilou S. Pinto (Brgy. Bayanan, Muntinlupa City).
Aside from the validation visit, interview and desk review, a written examination was also administered to the 15 OBNSs on April 12, 2016 at the Conference Room of the DOH-NCRO in Mandaluyong City.
The results of the OBNS evaluation will be deliberated on by the RNET chaired by Mrs. Beth Florendo on May 5 and 6, 2016. Whoever will be adjudged as the 2015 ROBNS of NCR will have a chance to vie for the NOBNS Award. (TAR/MEVF/NNCNCR)

Mr. Dwi Kristatto from Indonesia and Ms. Saybah Jackson from Liberia, students of Masters in Professional Studies on Food and Nutrition Planning (MPS-FNP) in UPLB visited NNC-NCR on April 22, 2016 as part of their 32-hour practicum at the National Nutrition Council.
Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Milagros Elisa V. Federizo and Nutrition Officer III Emerenciana L. Francia oriented the students on the operationalization of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) and other policies and programs at the regional and sub-national levels. They were familiarized on the regional nutrition situation, coordinating structures for the Philippine Plan for Action for Nutrition (PPAN), Regional Nutrition Committee Strategic Plan, inter-agency coordination, and other aspects of nutrition program management at the regional and local levels.
They also visited Mandaluyong City where they were warmly welcomed by the members of the Nutrition Committee of the city and that of Barangay Pag-asa. BNC Chair and Barangay Captain Tracy Rhoy R. Domingo shared with them how they plan and manage their nutrition programs and projects while BNS Mary Grace Tamayo oriented them on her tasks and functions as well as her documentation of activities. Both Mr. Kris and Ms. Seybah expressed their appreciation of the hospitality accorded to them by NNC-NCR and Mandaluyong City.
