Fifteen (15) outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs) from 14 cities and 1 municipality in Metro Manila are vying for the Regional Outstanding BNS (ROBNS) for 2015.
Barangay Nutrition Scholars are community-based nutrition workers who deliver basic nutrition and related services in the communities. Presidential Decree 1569 mandates that there should be at least one (1) BNS in every barangay. The BNSs are considered modern-day heroes who help mothers and children get proper nutrition. They also serve as catalysts of change in the communities by empowering families through the various nutrition programs and services they help implement together with the barangay nutrition committee.
The National Nutrition Council recognizes yearly the Outstanding BNSs (OBNSs) in the country who have shown exemplary performance and contributed much to the improvement of the nutrition situation in the community he or she serves.
To determine the NCR contender for the National Outstanding BNS (NOBNS) for 2015, the inter-agency Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team (RNET) conducted its evaluation of city/municipal OBNSs in Metro Manila from February 10 to April 8, 2016. The OBNSs’ performance and accomplishments in 2015 were assessed based on the guidelines and prescribed evaluation tool.
