NGOForum11 November 2014, Quezon, City - As part of the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement strategy, the National Nutrition Council-NCR with the Regional Nutrition Committee conducted an NGO Forum at the Robbinsdale Hotel, Quezon City. The forum aims to forge partnership with government and non-government organizations to widen doors for partnerships and for exploring, testing, and scaling up innovations for nutrition improvement.

“National agencies and local government units have been working together to fight hunger and malnutrition in our country for a very long time. NGOs implement various programs and projects to supplement or complement the government’s effort in mitigating hunger and malnutrition in our country. However, their involvement is not fully recognized and documented which sometimes lead to overlapping and/or duplication of projects and beneficiaries.” said NCR Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Milagros Elisa V. Federizo.

NCRPPANPIR2014The NNC-NCR conducted a one-day Program Implementation Review (PIR) with the 17 LGUs of Metro Manila on November 27, 2014 at the Training Room of Marikina Healthy City Center to assess the progress of local PPAN implementation in the region.

The Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN), the country's blueprint in addressing hunger and malnutrition, provides the framework for improving the nutritional status of Filipinos. The PPAN implementation at the local level contributes significantly to the overall success of the PPAN. The periodic assessment of the local PPAN implementation is an important activity to determine whether programs, projects and activities (PPAs) were undertaken as planned, targets were reached, expected outcomes were realized and resources were utilized efficiently. It is also considered as one of the key elements of effective nutrition program management (NPM).
