With the aim of guiding and mentoring target LGUs for capacity-building on nutrition program management, NNC Calabarzon conducted a 2-day orientation for the 2022 Regional Nutrition Shepherding Team (RNST) last October 17 and 18 at the St. Giles Hotel, Makati City.
One of the major agreements, is the drafting and issuance of a memorandum by the DILG IV-A directing the attendance of key persons of the Local Nutrition Committees (LNCs) of Rizal and Bacoor to attend the RNST dialogue with the LCEs.

Sa nakaraang “Virtual Deliberation of Search for Calabarzon MELLPI Pro Awardees for LNFPs” na ginanap noong Setyember 28, 2022, kinilala na ng Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team (RNET) ang mga tatanghaling Regional Outstanding Local Nutrition Focal Points (LNFPs) ng CaLaBaRZon ngayong Disyembre. Ang nasabing parangal ay isasabay sa “2022 CaLaBaRZon Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony (RNAC).”
Ang mga hihirangin na Outstanding LNFPs sa Region 4A ay ang mga sumusunod: 1) Calabarzon Provincial Nutrition Action Officer for the Year 2021; 2) Calabarzon City/Municipal NAO for the Year 2021; 3) Calabarzon District Nutrition Program Coordinator for the Year 2021; 4) Calabarzon City/Municipal Nutrition Program Coordinator for the Year 2021; at 5) Regional Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar for the Year 2021.

Ngayong new normal na face to face ng mga klase, mas lumuwag ang mga restrictions sa mga kainan kung saan nagsibalikan ang mga kabi- kabilang fast food chains, tea and coffee shops, mga buffet restaurants, mga street foods -- kaya naman mas lumaki ang hamon para sa mga magulang at kinauukulan.

Matagumpay na naisulong noong Agosto 17 at 18 ang mga “Plano sa Nutrisyon” ng Region IV-A LGUs para sa priority Programs, Projects, and Activities (PPAs) ng kanilang 2023 Annual Investment Programs (AIPs) sa tulong ng NNC Calabarzon na pinamumunuan ni RNPC Carina Z. Santiago.
Sa kabuuan, ang aktibidad ay nilahukan ng 36 participants na binubuo ng local nutrition, health, budget and planning officers at mga kinatawan nito mula sa napiling 12 HDPRC Areas sa Quezon Province, kabilang ang Baras at Rodriguez, Rizal (ECCD F1K Areas).
Kasama sa highlights sa unang araw ng 2-day Zoom online workshop ay ang pagtalakay ng mga “Update sa Devolution and Transition Plan (DTP) para sa mga LGUs.” ni Ms. Ella Loraine D. Obra, OIC-Chief Budget and Management Specialist ng DBM4A.

Appetizing meals from the best ayuda recipes in town were elegantly showcased by the ten (10) contenders from each barangay of the Municipality of Baras, Rizal, during the “Grand Finals of the Municipal Cooking Contest.”
The “Okoy Veggie with Tuna Flakes and Egg” dish of Ms. Antonieta Espiritu bagged the highest score with Php 7,000.00 prize. Each okoy contains health-giving kalabasa, repolyo, kamote, bell pepper, malunggay, kinchay, canned tuna and egg on top. It was served with turmeric rice sprinkled with chopped malunggay leaves.

From January to June of 2022 (and in previous years), ischemic heart diseases were the leading cause of deaths in the country, with 48,728 cases or 18.5 percent of the total deaths. Reason behind this is that many Filipinos may have ischemic episodes and heart attacks without knowing it, as it has no prior warning. It is even called “silent ischemia” or “silent killer.”
In addition, many are not aware that we can reduce the risks through healthy lifestyles, healthy diet and exercise. If we Filipinos choose the 10 Kumainments as our top health priorities, we can save more -- not only for pregnant women and children but adults as well.
