ro12 nosmokingThe No Smoking Month is commemorated every June, the month immediately following after the observance of World No Tobacco Day (May 31). This is the time when the advocacy for restraint in the consumption of tobacco campaign expands deeper awareness and prevention against health threats of tobacco use.

This June 2012, NNC Region XII updates its bulletin board to raise the awareness in the observance of “No Smoking Month”. The Council seizes the opportunity to educate more people on the hazards of tobacco and smoking by this small act we opt to protect the people from second-hand smoke and to discourage them from becoming smokers themselves.

ro12 KidapawancrownWhich LGU would not want to have this distinct recognition, the National Nutrition Honor Award? In order to select the LGU with the exemplary performance in nutrition program management and delivery of nutrition services, the National Nutrition Council conducts its Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition (CROWN) validation visit. Qualified for the 1st Year CROWN Maintenance Award, is one of Region 12’s pride, Kidapawan City. And it did show the National Evaluation Team that the city does deserve the award.

The National Nutrition Evaluation Team composed of Ms. Lorna Garcia of UP Los Ba?os, Ms. Alona Teo and Ms. Ellen Abella of NNC Central Office, evaluated Kidapawan city and its 5 sample barangays last April 10-13, 2012. An integral part of the validation visit was the feedback conference where members of the national evaluation team gave an initial feedback to the city nutrition committee. By the end of the validation visit, both the Kidapawan City Nutrition Staff and the NNET are hoping for positive results.

RO12 collaborationRegional Nutrition Program Coordinator of NNC XII, Arceli Latonio, facilitated a coordination meeting with Head of Program- Nutrition Department of ACF International, Dr. Oscar Fudalan Jr. together with Provincial Nutrition Action Officer of Cotabato Province-Elizabeth Moneva and District Nutrition Program Coordinator- Jasmine Regaspi. The group identified and presented possible projects or activities that can  possibly be implemented and funded by ACF International for the capability building. Activities  for Cotabato province.   With the utmost advocacy of the ACF International, Dr. Fudalan Jr. committed to help the council and LGus by providing various  IEC and collateral materials to be distributed for Cotabato. Province.   The group tied up with the commitment of  determining/ identifying effective nutrition interventions to saddress the problem of hunger and malnutrition.

RO12 rdc cooking contestWho says that palatable and refined foods are only served at high- priced restaurants?   April 26, 2012, representatives from all-over Region came into one culmination – The RECIPE DEVELOPMENT COOKING CONTEST held at Greenwoods Retreat House and Convention Center, Koronadal City. Each entry showcases their exquisite talent on making low-cost ingredients into high class cuisines. The contestants had shown great innovative approach on the dishes as well as in plating making it hard for the judges to decide. The council invited food experts as the judges but at the end one dish prevailed. Fresh HRM graduates of NDMU brought home the prize. The said activity is NNC’s initiative to improve nutrition condition of the poorest families. The winning recipes will be compiled into a recipe book which will be printed and shall be distributed to the beneficiaries of the government’s Pantawid Pamilya or the Conditional Cash Transfer Program administered by the DSWD and other government sectors.

ro12 nutriskwela PresroxasMr. Francisco Flores of MQ Mediazone  and Ms. Jovie Raval of NNC –CO visited President Roxas, Cotabato and  conducted an  orientation  on Nutriskwela Community Radio Project among the officials and selected staff of President Roxas.   An ocular visit/inspection to the proposed Radio station was made.   This project will be established by the National Nutrition Council thru the MQ Mediazone before end of December. The Municipal Mayor signed the Memorandum of Agreement, as expression of accepting the project with corresponding counterpart.

ro12 BLT“Preparing the children for a better future”.  This is what the RD foundation and Jollibee Foundation Inc. envisions as they launch the BUSOG, LUSOG,  TALINO (BLT) Feeding Program in the 5 selected schools in Sarangani Province. The launching was held at Rogaya Bajunaid Integrated School, Maasim, Sarangani last July 16, 2012.  Mr. Karl Vincent M. Quiepo, AVP- Executive Director  of RD Foundation believed that, if the children are fed well, they will become healthy and smart children, thus making them competitive to the global industry. The RD foundation, GenSan Shipyard  and the Jollibee foundation continues to spread their generous service to those in need as they prepare the children for a better future .With these, the National Nutrition Council XII in the leadership of Ms. Arceli M. Latonio, encouraged the teachers in the fore mentioned school and the barangay council to strengthen the promotion on good nutrition. In addition, NPC Latonio endorsed the said school to the trained PGN- IYCF BNS and health workers to implement the “Pabasa sa Nutrisyon ”  sessions especially to the family beneficiaries of the BLT.
